(Not) First Rag

In 2016, I wrote my actual “first rag,” although it was called “Blueberry Rag.” It was a total bust. In January 2017, however, I wrote this piece, and (although some minor changes were required) it became my “first rag” that I liked enough to leave it alone after the first write.

Consecutively called Sunday Afternoons, Lazy Rag, Lazy Day, and Lazy Day Rag, “First Rag” is a fairly simple piece, (although longer than most of my other songs) speaking theoretically.

Oh, and just as a side note: “Blueberry Rag” was eventually rewritten and became “Flop Rag,” as it was salvaged from my flop; though, to look at the two, not many people would see much resemblance.

Hello

Hello fellow musicians, my name is Brian Stevenson, and I am a pianist and clarinetist, composer, and aspiring guitarist.

My favorite musical style is piano jazz or ragtime, particularly the works of Scott Joplin. I have written a number of musical pieces with that style in mind. Most people consider me an amateur, but a few recognize me as extremely musically inclined for my age of fifteen years old.

The purpose of this blog is threefold: (a) to create a place where people can share their music ideas with other musicians, (b) to get my music out there among people that may appreciate it, and (c) to help others do so.

So, got some ideas? Share them! I will be putting my music and possibly some music books out shortly!
